Top 2 Gadgets 2012 - CES

No.1 Sony Google TV Set TCES 2012

You’ll be familiar with Google’s Android operating system from mobile phones and tablets, but soon it’ll be laying claim to your living room too, courtesy of the first Google TV powered set top box/media player from Sony.

The NSZ-GP7 may be no bigger than a paperback book, but it offers access to a library of next generation apps, designed for TV, from the Android Market. Sony’s Google box will also stream live TV channels, allow you to Tweet and Facebook friends, and scour the web.

It also comes with an advanced remote control featuring a touchpad on one side and full backlit keyboard on the other. This super zapper even has a built-in microphone, for voice control and a game compliant 3 axis motion sensor. It’s due for release this summer.

No.2 Panasonic Waterproof Camcorder

CES 2012This has been designed with action men in mind. It‘s a rugged, pistol-grip camcorder which can be submerged in water up to a depth of three metres.

Not only does the HX-WA2 shoot in hi-def beneath the surf, you can also use it as a still camera, snapping 14-megapixel images where other cameras fear to tread. We particularly like the Panorama mode. Just pan up and down, or left and right, to create spectacular horizontal or vertical panoramas.

Other niceties include an intelligent 15x zoom and Active E.I.S. (Electric Image Stabilisation) system to prevent camera shake. Connect it to a PC and you can instantly upload your submarine footage to YouTube or Facebook. We predict it’ll be available just in time for the summer holidays.
